(The rest of our information can be found below this PSA.)

President Donald Trump has signed a bill to cut $1.1 billion in federal funding meant for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting – also known as the CPB.

This has resulted in the Corporation of Public Broadcasting shutting down.

The CPB’s primary purpose was to ensure that all people have access to quality, non-commercialized content and information. America has a long history of lobbyists fighting for the right to non-commercialized content. (How great is it to disrespect – no, disparage – the efforts of people who fought to create the good parts of our country’s systems?) This means that programs like NPR and PBS, and especially every public open-access radio and television program will suffer immense losses of resources. Many of the latter may be forced to shut down entirely. [paraphrasing sourced from Deadline.com.] If you have the financial means, please consider donating to your local programs.

This continues to be a crucial time in American history. Writing to congress is a great act of accountability; at the same time, we must act to support our communities and people ourselves. If you don’t have the financial means to donate (don’t feel guilty for that, by the way), there are other ways to help.

Here are some ways you can take action: Volunteer. Continue to write. Continue to speak up. Create art and music to spread ideas of connection, togetherness, and progress in your communities. Reach out to your programs, local or not, and ask how you can help them specifically. If you don’t have the time for any of that – spread the message. Ask it of others. If all else fails, be kind to your fellow civilians.

It is our responsibility to fight for what we need. We urge you to join the fight. We need you. It is our country, our culture, our education, and our people continuing to deliberately be put at risk. Please do not underestimate the value of your voice. Please do not allow yourself to be dissuaded by the overwhelm you may feel due to the failures of your representatives. We will get through this together. First, we must figure out how to be together; and that means to take action for what you believe in.

If you have the time, feel free to read Variety’s article on CPB’s closure for more information.

Here is NPR’s donation site. It is represented by the red heart symbol.

Here is PBS’s official website, where you may navigate to the donation site by looking for, again, the red heart symbol.

Defunded but not defeated. ❤️

Oh, by the way: if we consider estimates from Forbes and realmoney.com, the amount that Trump cut from this sector of public funding alone is equivalent to only the second largest chunk of Trump’s personal net worth; $1.1 billion. Isn’t that an interesting statistic?

[End of PSA. Thank you for reading.]

Our site’s launch date is August 1st, 2025; that means our first issue will be running on August 15th! (Also 2025.)

The Bluebird Gazette is a small, online magazine run for the people, by one person.

Mission Statement:

Having access to timely information via credible sources is critical to maintaining our safety and togetherness as a community.

The Bluebird Gazette seeks to bring a free balance of verified information and much needed levity to as many readers as possible. Our goal is to provide a reliable and open-access third digital space you can trust, which presents a calm, fun break from reality, while also being informative.

As of now, issues are published bi-weekly on Fridays at 9 AM EST.

Each issue contains five sections

  • First: An article covering some Good News from around the world
  • Second: An opinion article discussing Current Events
  • Third: An article covering a piece of Culture or History
  • Fourth: A featured Art or Literature piece, or a video of significance
  • Fifth: Something Science!

Individual publishing archives

Click here to view the archives for pieces which we publish individually; or in other words, pieces published outside of our Bi-Weekly issues.

Subscriptions

There is no requirement to subscribe to the Bluebird Gazette to view any of our main issues. However, if you would like to subscribe to the magazine, Wordpress provides a Subscribe button on each page. If you would like to subscribe to the magazine newsletter, you will be emailed a weekly newsletter with fun facts, original art, and extra details that had to be cut out of the Bi-Weekly Issue due to word count limits. That can be done here.

This process is still free, and will not ask for any payment information, nor any personal information other than an email you feel comfortable providing – the newsletters seem to be too heavy for our carrier pigeons, regrettably.

AI Policy

This magazine is completely human made. Absolutely no AI will be used in the creation of any article. To the best of our ability, we will screen every piece of media, art, and gathered information, to present nothing of artificial creation or summary. It’s just human culture, news, and a discussion. This approach will be conducted with respect to each submission as well.

Want a physical copy?

Physical copies will be available to order as soon as the first issue has been published.

Patreon subcscriptions and donations

Please note that while our Patreon and Ko-fi (donation) sites are up, they are still being designed; so as of now, there are no available subscription or donation options. It may seem silly that we linked them anyway, but we just want to make sure they’re easy to find if you so desire.

While we are dedicated to keeping our platform free and easily shareable, there are also options to access our extra niche beats, get even more directly involved in the discussion, and get a couple of perks based on what you are comfortable paying.

If you’re interested in exploring our Patreon options when they are published, you can find them here. All funds go toward improving the magazine.

If you would like to make a donation when our Ko-fi options are up, you can find that page here. You can also choose an option based on where you would like your donation to be directed specifically. (To support the magazine, to support the publisher, indifferent, etc.)

All donations will be logged with receipts recording said stated intent; so you can be sure of exactly where your donations are going. We do not take your generosity lightly and want to maintain upmost respect for your trust in us.

Asset Credits

The art and cover art in each issue is created originally by the art team at Bluebird Gazette. (Hello!) However, occasionally, we may utilize free-for-use artistic elements, such as in the form of a collage or for page visuals, from Unsplash.com.

Unsplash is a very helpful website for creators with immensely talented artists. Although all elements we use from their website are free to use (no copyright issues), we will still provide credits for each asset used to assure the original artists are acknowledged.

You can find the page with credits here.

A running document of all informational sources (which can also be found on the back (last) page of whichever issue they pertain to) is available for view as soon as the first issue is published.

Disclaimer:

The language “we” and “us” in referring to the team at Bluebird Gazette, at the moment, is only being used metaphorically. You have to take some creative liberties in site design when you’re a team of one. It is the loneliest number, after all.
